POEM "WHEN THE END CAME"

WHEN THE END CAME

The fight was longer than we ever hoped it would be
We fought together shoulder to shoulder
We struggled for the release to set us free
Our bodies would soon turn to molder

We fought at night
We fought at day
It wasn’t a sight
That would be turned to clay

When the bullets were gone
We punched and kicked
Stabbed them to the bone
We would not be licked

We fought and fought
Then fell back a bit
Victory was their thought
And our eternal pit

We made it back to the city center
The hyenas nipped at out heels
Death was our best inventor
Satan was not making deals

When the shooting died down
And the sun broke out to shine
The beast came around
And he was ready to dine

I ran from my hiding spot
Took care not to look back
With the air full of the dot
Courage was not for lack

In slow motion the horror comes
The girl beside me reduced to ash
No damage yet to the homes
Just the blinding hateful flash

I can’t run anymore
I’ve given it my all
Slip into a corner store
See lovers couple in a stall

They are together now
And forever in the lore
As the shock wave starts to plow
Humanity is shocked to the core

I feel nothing now
I’m in an eternal mist
Can’t fight this devilish glow
Can’t even raise a fist

In the end what was solved?
Was this “god” on one side?
Don’t ask us who were involved
Just remember us who died.
