Baloney donair

I went to the grocery store yesterday with the intent on getting hamburger fixings to have for supper. While there I spied this package of donair meat. It was in a package like bacon. So I thought I'd try it out. There was a bottle of donair sauce next to it. The package of donair meat was 50% off because it was past the best before date by a day.
I ate late. I opened up the donair meat and inspected it. It looked like thin strips of baloney with some dark coloured bits in it. I tasted it. It tasted like spicey baloney. The package said to fry it for about a minute on each side, but I went longer to get some good colour and texture on it. I ran water over the whole wheat pita and nuked it for 25 seconds. I put some donair meat on half of the pita, then some chopped onions and tomatoes. Then I put on some mozzarella cheese then the donair sauce and cracked black pepper.
It actually tasted pretty good. The pita was soft and warm, the meat had a nice crisp to it, and the rest added nicely to it. The donair sauce added lots of authentic taste to the deal.
Next time I go to the grocery store I'm going to compare the price of donair meat to baloney to see if it is much more expensive or not. The donair meat was $5.54 for
.336 of a kilo. I think that thin sliced baloney with lots of spices i.e. garlic would probably taste similiar to the donair meat.
Will update my findings,,,,

QEH patient's family stages protest

"The family of a patient at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown is vowing to protest in front of Province House until the woman is transferred to a hospital in Halifax.
The four relatives, who began the protest on Sunday, claim Fern Yates, 64, isn't being properly cared for at the QEH, and they want her moved.
They said Yates had an operation in December to relieve a blockage that was reducing circulation to her legs. Within a week, she was airlifted to Halifax, where doctors found and repaired a hole in her bowel.
According to the family, Yates was transferred back to the QEH in January to recuperate but has since developed bedsores and infections."

Sad and unfortunate story..... but I love this story comment:

"Git your arses to the QEH and stay with her till she is better ya pack of morons. You obviously have nothing better to do."

BABY

Su Wong marries Lee Wong.
The next year, the Wongs have a new baby.
The nurse brings out a lovely, healthy, bouncy, but definitely a Caucasian, WHITE baby boy.

'Congratulations,' says the nurse to the new parents...
'Well Mr. Wong, what will you and Mrs. Wong name the baby?'

The puzzled father looks at his new baby boy and says, 'Well, two Wong's don't make a white,
so I think we will name him...

Moscow subway blasts kill 37

"At least 37 people are dead and dozens are injured after two female suicide bombers attacked two Moscow subway stations during the rush-hour commute Monday morning, Russian officials say. An early investigation pointed to terrorists connected to the restive Caucasus region that includes Chechnya."
"Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon said Canada "strongly condemns the cowardly attacks."

The story also add that an average of 7 million people use the subway daily! What a big fat juicy target. Will we start to see the same kind of airport security introduced to the subway?

Hmmm, female suicide bombers? Lots of emphasis has been placed on the virgins that male martyrs will recieve in heaven. Do female martyrs get to heaven and recieve a bunch of sweaty nerdy D&D and role playing computer gamers with thick glasses and hairy palms?

Just wondering.

Montreal fire kills 4

"Three adults and a seven-year-old boy died after flames ripped through a triplex in the Verdun district of Montreal early Sunday, officials said.
The blaze broke out around 5 a.m. ET and was brought under control after more than 100 firefighters arrived at the scene."

I find it incredibly sad that we are still losing lives to fire. With all the technology we have at hand you would think that this would be a thing of the past, especially in multi-level building or apartement. Did they have working smoke alarms? Is it the building owner that is responsible to make sure they are working?
Sad, sad, sad,,,,

Afghan medic accused Semrau of killing

"Five words of broken English from an Afghan army medic — "Capt. Rob boom, boom Taliban" — led to second-degree murder charges against Capt. Robert Semrau, his court martial heard Friday."
"At the military trial in Gatineau, Que., Maj. Steve Nolan testified that a medic named Gulamjaan made the accusation about two months after a badly wounded insurgent died on a battlefield in Helmand province."
"Nolan said the words, accompanied by a shooting gesture toward the ground, prompted him to start asking questions about the October 2008 incident. Semrau is accused of shooting the wounded insurgent, who had been disarmed."

Here is an example of some of dthe bad leadership that is in our Army. Instead of standing up for one of his Officer's, Maj Steve Nolan decided that if this got out he could get in trouble. Therefore it would be better for his personal life and most importantly his career, to start an investigation on Capt Semrau.

Stay strong Rob..

Canadian soldier pleads not guilty in Afghan death

"A Canadian soldier has pleaded not guilty of murder in the death of a wounded, disarmed insurgent in Afghanistan. Capt. Robert Semrau, 36, pleaded not guilty to four charges, including second-degree murder, at his court martial in Gatineau, Que., on Wednesday."

He was mentoring an Afghan Army foot patrol when it was fired on from a village. After an attack by a US helicopter, the soldiers found two people presumed to be Taliban fighters. One was dead, the other was severely wounded. The wounded man was armed when found, but his weapon was confiscated. It was decided his condition was so bad that he couldn't be treated or moved, so he was left behind.
According to a statement of circumstances released jointly by defence and prosecution lawyers in January 2009, one Canadian soldier said he saw Semrau standing over the wounded man as the group was leaving the area. Two shots were heard by the group, and another soldier said he saw Semrau fire in the direction of the wounded man. When they returned, the man was dead.

Well war is war. If he gets found guilty I hope the penalty won't be severe. A US soldier was actually filmed by reporters shooting a wounded insurgent in Iraq. I wonder what became of him?

French/German relations

I have a movie around the house somewhere that probably sums up the northern France attitude toward the Germans. I just looked for it and never found it. It's called "Hell is for Hero's". Steve McQueen is a US infantryman in France defending a weak front against the Germans. I believe it may be just before the Battle of the bulge. Or not. Any way, as thin as the defence is in this sector, the rebel McQueen slinks away from the front line to a nearby village to a small french cafe ( We really lost a great one when Steve passed away). He goes up to the comely lass and orders some booze, probably whiskey, which probably no cafe in the occupied zone had. Brandy, Schnapps and vodka maybe. Any way when she gives him the drink, he answers "Danke shon", to which she replies "Bitter shon" and then realizes her mistake. Steve gives her a harrowing stare and says something in the line of
'you will sell this swill Ukranian whiskey to anyone, as long as you make a profit". Of course being 20 kms from the German border and about a billion miles away from America never entered Steve's mind. He was lucky that the french maid didn't stub her cigarette into his eye socket.
Feck I just looked for this movie, and have come to the conclusion that I probably had it in VHS and binned it in Chalk River before the move down here. I will have to order it in DVD, it is a good movie... with Steve, and James Coburn and Bob Newhart in his first movie role.
Any way, I think my point here is the french are like good female friends that you are not boinking, good to have around in a party, but fecking scarce in a fight.

Vichy France

Allright lets try to upload a photo...
As you can see, a lot of the country had no problem being under German control.

French Resistance

I have looked up some facts about the French Resistance and was going to copy and paste a bunch of stuff here, but thought that just posting the link to the Wikipedia site would be easier.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Resistance

I know that wiki is not the absolute truth, but they must have some idea..

Now to find a Vichy France map...

WWE Wrestling quote:

Tonight on WWE RAW by Dave "The Animal" Batista (talking to the audience):

"You hate me because I'm honest. I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to win titles and make money. You don't mean anything to me except more money. I look out at you and see money...money...money. And I look at some of you and see even more money, because there are a lot of fat people out there and I know you paid for 2 seats!"

That big bastard is really honest.

Duceppe's 'resistance' comments draw fire

"Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe is standing by his remarks likening sovereigntists to Second World War resistance movements."
"Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon says the Bloc leader's analogy ranks among the most absurd and ridiculous ever made by a sovereigntist."

Yes, the brave French resistance, aka Maquis. I should look up, and I'm writing this down so I will look it up, the numbers of Germans killed versus the number of French civilian deaths in response to those deaths. I have heard a number of 10 French deaths for every German soldier killed, but that may have been on the Eastern Front. They certainly helped downed Allied airmen reach safety. They blew up some train tracks and bridges and so forth. Ambushed German convoys, and generally made life uneasy for the German Army. Mostly Guerrila type engagements; hit hard and then melt into the country side.
You may be thinking of something.... and you are right - they sound just like the Taliban. One sides freedom fighters are the other sides terrorists is not an empty saying.
And let's not forget the large part of France that openly collaborated with the Germans. They were called Vichy French and most most of the south of France, I think.
All in all an interesting news story!

'I tried to stop and I couldn't stop': Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods has acknowledged "living a lie," saying he alone was responsible for the sex scandal that caused his shocking downfall from global sporting icon to late-night TV punchline. It was all me. I'm the one who did it. I'm the one who acted the way I acted. No one knew what was going on when it was going on," Woods told The Golf Channel in one of two interviews Sunday night."

Well here is another hot ticket.

The comments on this story are priceless. They range from the obvious from other alpha males, i.e. "We all want sex, and with the sexiest chicks, and being famous and rich only makes it easier, and if you are a loser you will get married" to the liberals lads and nice girls "It is such a shame, but through hard work and love they will keep this lovely multi-coloured family together" to the the fat ugly feminists expurging that he is not worthy of having a wife and kids and he should know better because his mom is from Thailand and probably seen more dick ends than weekends before she was 17 and met big fat daddy woods and swept him off his feet because of true love"!

OK, I made that last part up.

But I'm divided on this story. Being one who has been lured by a couple of addictions, I feel for the man/boy/kunta kinde/toby. Did I ever have the amount of money he has... well no. Have I travelled and been not worried about the amount of money I spend? Almost exclusively. Have some of these vacations been to countries where the sale of alcohol is legal? Certainly. Have some of these countries offered legal girls of the night? Certainly. Ahhh sweet memories... oops where was I? hmmm.... a point, I must reach a point, grrrr! Let's try this; me, a simple Army tanker and recce soldier making a modest amount of salary have travelled the world and have suckled from the boozy teat until that teat was dry, and then on to human teats and other naughty bits. I recognized from early on that hearth and home and family was not for me.
And one last point - his wife must have an ice cold bum or she has a penis, because only a ignorant duffus would stray away from that hot Viking!

Historic U.S. health-care bill passes.

Stand by for long message.

This is a comment on the story from a Brent McGillis:

When a left wing voter being speaks up, the Right Wing Extremist looney fringe starts barking out that we are obviously uneducated and uninformed. When in fact, the opposite is true. Right wing Metards tend to be ignorant, stupid and very uninformed on the issues. There is absolutely NO evidence to prove that private delivery of ANY service is cheaper than government services. Bankrupt Bush/Cheney America has proven that beyond ANY reasonable doubt. Alberta has proven that with its Health Care delivery, the most expensive in Canada with the worst waiting times, highest lack of access, worst patient satisfaction and Highest Admin costs. I write about it in my blog, that government based on making sure only Neo-Con Contractors make all the dough, does not equal proper delivery of any Services(Bush/Katrina fiasco-Case in point). Hellberta in particular cannot brag about it's health care delivery. I was injured at work, WCB refuses to acknowledge anything, they have not paid for my medications for over 3-1/2 yrs. I live on welfare, they pay for my meds 500+/month. I have been waiting for a ortho spinal surgeon for 11 mths. 2 years for a MRI. These are cleverly disguised TAXES for 40 years. Neo-Con governments just download all the costs onto taxpayers who are to dumb to see it. Same as the US. The funny part is that they are screwing their own supporters with a big +C. Exactly the same BS has been sold here, Hospitals have been handed over to the private sector without even a single vote. A vote for Conservatives is a vote for repressive fascist governance. Injured workers are the Sicko stars in Canada. Obama is the bravest, workhorse human you will see in our lifetime. His instills greater achievement for all of mankind. He deserves the NOBEL. Go Barack!

To which I replied (plus some added emphasis):

Brent McGillis:

Take it easy on the welfare supplied grass dude. Why don't you move to Russia and live in an utopian society. Oh wait, they already discovered that living in a failed state doesn't work. I'm not saying you are wrong in your opinions, just try not to be so radical in your beliefs! I find it hard to believe that Canada is divided between two major parties; "right wing" Conservatives and "left wing" Liberals. Are the people of Canada that different, like to be wired for either 110V or 220V? I firmly believe that Canada is at least 90% straight down the middle, and the other 10% is made up of gun registry nitwits, anti-abortion fucktards and anyone with the last name of Slade. It's no wonder that the NDP and Green party get so many votes; plenty of people are sick of the two main parties taking such opposite strageties that exclude many good initiatives.

At this time, may I comment on the Bloq Quebecois (BQ)? Gilles Duceppe and his cronies should be put on a ship with a one way passage to France. Separate from Canada? Give me a break. Why don't you folk celebrate the fact that you are a french speaking province in the best country in the world (like I believe that 90% of the common folk of Quebec thinks) and not be so bitter all the time? Hmmm, I wonder and will look this up - what is the population of Quebec? What is the total of the rest of Canada that speaks french? I'm not talking about percentages, just total numbers. I bet you it is not equal, but I think it is pretty close. AND for the love of Tony Bennett, please please please include Celine on that boat to France. The best part of the slow boat to France angle is that I have been in contact with the last remaining German U-Boat that is operating in the North Atlantic. It still has a full complement of weapons and torpedoes, and after 60 odd years of bobbing around the Atlantic Ocean, these guys should know how to use them. They are not Nazi fanatics by any means, they just have the natural hatred of the lizard tongues that the rest of Europe has. I have set up a digital recorded message to my radio transmitter, which means that the co-ordinates and timing of the frog leg express are being transmitted every 30 minutes. This is neccessary because those 80 and 90 year old dingbats can remember anything that is over 25 minutes old. It is a good plan, yes...

What was I talking about??... Oh yes US health care plan... let me take a clip from the afore mentioned CBC news story:

"The legislation would extend coverage to an estimated 32 million uninsured Americans, bar insurers from denying coverage on the basis of existing medical conditions and cut federal deficits by an estimated $138 billion US over a decade."

Yay for the land of the free down south of us, they are going to save $138 billion..

"Congressional analysts estimate the cost of the two bills combined would be $940 billion over 10 years."

Wait a tic, they are going to save $138 billion over the next decade by spending $940 billion? What kind of math is this? But wait I am forgetting,,, it is all OK as long as the trailer park trash and the ghetto trash get health insurance.
There must be a GOD, because this surely means that some powerful overlord is looking over the great US of A.!

And I'm spent....

Gamblers' $3.5B suit against OLG rejected

"Problem gamblers have lost their bid to a launch a $3.5 billion class action lawsuit against the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
Between December 1999 and February 2005, more than 10,000 people voluntarily signed "self-exclusion" forms, asking the government-owned lottery corporation to bar them from its gaming sites.
The lawsuit alleges that these individuals suffered losses after the OLG failed to prevent them from entering gaming sites and gambling."

Can you believe this shite? Hmm, let's do some math.
Say the 10,000 gamblers lost $1,000 each, that would only equal $10 million.
Say the 10,000 gamblers lost $10,000 each, that would only equal $100 million.
Say the 10,000 gamblers lost $100,000 each, that would only equal $1 billion.
That would mean that the 10,000 gamblers are saying they each lost $350,000!!!!!!
I know this math may be faulted, but it still is a staggering amount of clams.
Comments on this story range from humour (i.e. another gamble lost) to lofty eruptions in the manner of what happened to personal responsibility for one's actions?
The casinos must be laughing all the way to the bank. Imagine what the casinos are making in the much more populated USA!
I spend $16 a month on the 649, and bet the odd $2 bet on sports games. I've been doing this since 1991 and have probably lost a total of $1000, and won around $440. Which way to the rehab resort?

PS - Perhaps all is not lost for these folks :

"Ontario Superior Court Justice Maurice Cullity didn't dismiss the merits of their claims against OLG, but said the gamblers' claims were based on their own unique personal circumstances — so they'd have to file individual lawsuits."

PSS - Unfortunately, I believe, that would mean each individual would have to hire their own lawyer, a task that one who has just recently flushed 350K into Lake Ontario would find a bit daunting, I dare say.

B.C. avalanche kills French skiers

"Two French heli-skiers are dead after the third major avalanche in British Columbia in a week."

3 were buried by the avalanche; one was dug out unharmed. The two dead were 65 and 19 years old. They were part of a 10 skier and 2 guides that took a helicopter to the top of the Cariboo mountains.

Do these people sign a waiver releasing the heli ski operators of all blame? This party was even guided and ran into trouble. I also imagine it is not cheap to go heli-sking.

It is the 3rd deadly avalanche in BC in just over a week.

Brookvale anyone?

Top court quashes child porn conviction

"The Supreme Court of Canada has overturned the conviction of a Saskatchewan man charged with possessing child pornography, saying a justice of the peace had insufficient evidence to issue a search warrant in 2003. Urbain P. Morelli maintained his charter rights were violated when police searched his computer for child pornography after a technician who had visited his home to work on the machine expressed concerns to police. In a 4-3 decision, the high court acquitted Morelli, after ruling police relied on a "carelessly drafted" and "misleading" search warrant. The computer technician had been installing a high-speed internet connection in Morelli's home in La Ronge in September 2002 when he noticed a webcam was plugged into a VCR and pointed toward the man's three-year-old daughter, who was playing with toys. The technician also noticed several links to both adult and child pornography sites in the taskbar’s "favourites" list."

Whew, big headline on this one, but I wanted to get as much of the story out. It is beyond me that the tech's info wasn't sufficient for a search warrant. Isn't possessing child porn illegal? I may give old Morelli the benefit of the doubt about the webcam pointed to his 3 year old, after all many parents take video of their kids. But it is a vile scenario if he is broadcasting disturbing video of his own kid. Now I'm presuming the tech, with all his experience, would know the difference between normal porn and child porn websites.

"When the technician returned to the house the next day to complete his work, he noticed the toys had been put away, the webcam was pointed in a different direction, the computer hard drive had been reformatted and the icons removed from the desktop."

So it seems that Morelli may have concluded that the tech had seen too much. But it seems he was found guilty on the tech's statement only and no actual child porn was discovered on his computer. Can't they get a record of websites visited from his server or something...?

Did a child porn pervert/pedophile get away with it? Possible, but I'm sure the Sasketchewan police learned a valuable lesson from all this..

Canada-Russia Arctic tensions rise

"Fresh tensions between Canada and Russia emerged Wednesday after Russian President Dmitry Medvedev told a session of his Security Council that his country must be prepared to defend its claims to Arctic mineral riches. In a direct response, Canada said it would reassert its sovereignty over the Far North at what is shaping up to be a controversial five-country Arctic summit it is hosting in two weeks in Chelsea, Que., outside Ottawa."

Of the more than 450 comments to this story on CBC, I like this one the best - " Let's leave it up to Santa to decide who rules!"

UN rejects Atlantic bluefin tuna ban

"A U.S.-backed proposal to ban the export of Atlantic bluefin tuna prized in sushi was rejected Thursday by a UN wildlife meeting, with scores of developing nations joining Japan in opposing a measure they feared would devastate fishing economies."

Needless to say, this would have had a big effect on the PEI tuna fishery. Pretty much all of the tuna caught is exported to Japan, with a little going to US markets in Boston and NYC.

Tiny Monaco led the effort to ban exports. Japan, as you can imagine, led the effort to overthrow the proposed ban.

Also rejected was a proposal to restrict the sale of Polar bear skins and parts.

Flesh-eating disease kills man suddenly

"A 40-year-old Windsor man has died on Mar 8th after contracting flesh-eating disease."

A day earlier, Montague, a father of two young children, noticed a small sore on his leg, and within hours fell unconscious. A day later he was dead.

Montague had necrotizing fasciitis, a rare but severe bacterial infection that can destroy muscles, skin and tissue and is spread only through direct contact.

We had a young Trooper in the Regiment who got this. He had sprained his ankle on a Sat night, and went to see the medics Monday morn. They shipped him directly to hospital where he had his leg amputated below the knee. He has since worked his way back into good enough shape that he was able to re-join the Regiment and I've heard that he may have deployed to Afghanistan.

The Public Health Agency of Canada estimates there are between 90 and 200 cases of necrotizing fasciitis per year in Canada, with as many as 30 per cent of those cases resulting in death.

Legal Opium

Wikipedia : "It seems 80% of the opium in the USA is produced in India and Turkey. It's also grown legally in Tasmania, France, the UK and Japan. A farmer in India gets around $29 US for a kilo of raw opium. While in Afghanistan - in 2002, the price for one kilogram of opium was $300 for the farmer, $800 for purchasers in Afghanistan, and $16,000 on the streets of Europe before conversion into heroin. Opium is about 10 times more profitable for the Afghan farmers than wheat."

Heck does that mean a farmer gets $30 US for a kilo of wheat?

Wiki also states that the Taliban cut back 94% of opium growth in 2000 to 74 tons a year. Since we took over, it has apparently gone up to 6100 tons a year on 402,000 acres of cropland. And it seems the Taliban collect tens of millions of $ of the farmers as a 'tax'.

I wonder if the US has any of that Agent Orange still kicking around. Probably. But then they probably got new stuff that is stronger.

Sheeesh!

Opium poppy secrets unlocked

"Researchers at the University of Calgary say they have discovered the unique genes that allow the opium poppy to make compounds used to produce such drugs as codeine and morphine. Isolating the genes means these painkillers could be made synthetically, in a lab, the researchers say in a report published Sunday in the journal Nature Chemical Biology. Opiates are in short supply and that means many in the developing world can't afford the most powerful painkillers. This research could soon make them cheaper."

Hmmm, let's see. Opiates are in short supply? As many have asked, why don't buy opium from the Afghanis to extract these compounds from. As a matter of fact, buy all the opium from them, so they have a legal purchaser and money doesn't go to terrorism. Probably because drug dealers pay more than drug companies would. And drug dealers and warlords would probably force them to sell to them.
And if the drug companies could make synthetic opiates, they will probably patent them and they will be just as expensive until the patent runs out, and we can get the genaric stuff. I'm interested to find out where all the opium comes from now; is it grown say in the US at highly protected fields in say the Arizona area. I'll have to look it up and get back to youse.

Breast milk cheese the topic du jour

"New York City's health commission has advised the chef of a local restaurant against making any more cheese from his wife's excess breast milk." "It's not intended for adults or for wide public consumption,"

This Chef", Daniel Angerer, wife has a lot of milk it seemed. They had lots in their fridge and some in the freezer, but when the freezer got full he likened the thought of throwing it awaw like "wasting gold".
He's giving away samples of it and it is not on his menu or planned to be. As you can imagine he has gotten all sorts of posts on his blogs either for it or agin' it.

Although some of my exes would look perfectly normal standing in a field munching on grass and hay, I'm not sure I would make the milk of their bazooms into cheese.

Just my opinion.

4 suicide attacks hit Afghanistan

"At least 30 people were killed and dozens injured after four suicide bombers struck Saturday in the southern city of Kandahar, the Afghan president's half-brother said."

Unreal isn't it? How do they find these guys to be a suicide bomber? They say they are all Islamic fanatics that truly believe they will go to heaven and get their hands on some virgins. If I were asked, I would bargain to get a few weeks with some virgins before blowing myself up, just in case the afterlife is over rated.

Parents acquitted of manslaughter in tot's OD death

"The Calgary parents of a toddler who overdosed on methadone were convicted Friday of failing to provide the necessities of life in the death of their 16-month-old daughter."
Jonathan Hope and Lisa Guerin were acquitted of two other, more serious, charges of manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death.

WTF! This is a sad case of young drug addicted parents having a baby. Sure, have all the fun you want with your drugs and so forth; but when you become pregnant - grow the fuck up and become a mother and father. These two should be have got a more serious offence. Having fun and life and death are separated by common sense.. Since I'm a single drunk I think they should go to jail for a long, long time..

Bodies of 2 women found near Belleville, Ont.

"Two women are dead and a third badly injured after a shooting at a home near Belleville in eastern Ontario, provincial police say. A man has been arrested".

Wow, another shooting in the Belleville/Trenton area. I think this area has had enough bad news related to it. Hopefully it is not Military related.

Report: Captured Taliban No. 2 'Singing Like a Male Canary'

Nothing interesting on CBC news site, so I went to FOX for this headline.

"Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, who was captured by Pakistani authorities in a raid, has become "a vital asset in gathering information on the Taliban and other extremist groups operating in the region," an unnamed Pakistani official told The Washington Examiner."

"He obviously does not want to be released under any circumstances. He would not survive after the information he has given the government," one Pakistani official told the paper.

I would have thought that the loosely organized Taliban would not be effected by a loss of a high ranking leader. How much leadership do you need to perform low level ambushes and plant IEDs? The story went on to say they have captured quite a few leaders of the Taliban, which may bade well for ISAF in their upcoming offensive and the one later in the summer in Khandahar province.

I suppose by reporting that the guy is "singing like a canary", may just be a ploy; by reporting it, the guy is probably marked for death, so had no real reason not to sing. Besides loyality and honour that is.

Meanwhile, in Washington, the house voted down a proposal to end the Afghanistan war by a vote of 356-65. If voted in, the US would have had to pull out its Military in 30 days.

Canadian wheelchair user beaten in Australia

"A 35-year-old Canadian who uses a wheelchair was beaten in Sydney, Australia, on Tuesday and is in hospital in serious condition, according to police reports."

The police have a 16 year old and another teenage in custody. They beat him up and stole his belongings and his wheelchair, then returned to give him some more. They used metal bars and part of his chair to beat him. It happened at 11:00 at night at a deserted train station, and was caught on video by a surveillance camera.

I hope these boys get a harsh sentence!

Niqab-wearing woman blocked again from class

"Last week, Naïma Atef Amed filed a complaint with the province’s human rights commission after she was kicked out of a government-funded language class for new immigrants at the CÉGEP de Saint-Laurent in Montreal. The school had demanded that Amexposed, for part of the class.ed take off her niqab veil, which covers her head and face and leaves only her eyes for part of the class."

"As we did last time, we told her that we have pedagogical objectives to meet in our French immersion courses, that they have to be taken with her face exposed," said Luc Fortin, a spokesman for the province's Immigration Minister.

Sounds like fecking racism by the Quebec province....

Attacks in Nigeria left 500 dead: reports

"Nigerian officials say close to 500 people may have been killed in weekend sectarian violence near the central city of Jos, not the 200 first reported."

Can't we all just get along? Religion doing it's best to separate people and encourage them to kill their neighbours. When will it end? WWW III and a final showdown of Christianity against Islam.
Hopefully it won't take place for 25 years or so.

Iraqis go to the polls

"Iraqis went to the polls Sunday under tight security designed to thwart insurgent attacks in an election testing the ability of the country's democracy to move forward amid uncertainty over a looming U.S. troop withdrawal."

These polls are retarded, these people are retarded. Fucking kill and kill again that is the answer. Fucking child molesting assholes who are in charge of Iraq. The amount of effort and the amount of money the US has put into Iraq is shamefull. And for so long the US troops have fought for what they believe. How many years should it take to occupy a city? The touchy feely types should be given a touchy feely punch in the face... The answer is take over Iraq and Afghanistan and make the rules. Kill as many as you have to, to make an example for the ones who think that sharia law is good. Kill them before they kill us.... Look into the eye of the dragon and despair, for the dragon has unleas
hed the mist to hide and change into...The dragoon knows to kill the persian folks..

$10K reward for Crosby's lost Olympic gear

"Reebok Canada is offering a $10,000 reward for the return of Sidney Crosby's stick and a glove, which went missing after he scored in overtime to give Canada the gold medal in men's hockey at the Vancouver Olympics last Sunday."

My guess is that his stick is worth a lot more than that and that whoever has it will be holding out for the biggest offer. Hmm, I have some old sticks in the shed and I still have some of my old hockey gear. Maybe I could put them on EBay as the missing stick and glove.

Canada wanted Afghan prisoners tortured: lawyer

"Federal government documents on Afghan detainees suggest that Canadian officials intended some prisoners to be tortured in order to gather intelligence, according to a legal expert."

Oh, for feck's sake. This legal expert, Amir Attaran, claims to have seen uncensored gov't documents last year that the gov't not only knew Afghans prisoners would get tortured, but wanted it to happen to get some intelligence. How this University of Ottawa Law professor got access to these docs, when no one else seems to be able to, is a great mystery.
One commentator on the CBC website claims that he is an old buddy of Mike Ignatieff. Maybe there is some kind of loyalty there.
One lawyer stirs up this mess in a country as large as Canada. And all the bleeding hearts and opposition parties jump on the band wagon. They grasp at any straw to rub shite in Harper's face.

We did not and do not have the facilities to house prisoners and most were handed over to the Afghan authorities. That's all we could do. We hunted them down, captured them and handed them over to the lawful authorities. The prisoners knew what they were in for, that is all part of the deal to be a terrorist/guerilla/freedom fighter. It absolutely astounds me that the Canadian population would get worked up by this. Harper a war criminal? Please..

Tim Hortons to add 900 outlets by 2013

"The Tim Hortons coffee chain plans to add 900 new outlets over the next three years across North America as part of an ambitious strategy the company announced Friday to grow profits and expand product offerings."

Well I knew that they were doing well, but it seems they are doing very well. 900!
Maybe we will get one in Souris and compete with our Robin's. I can't say I have a favorite, but probably Robin's as they give my dog, Jan, a doughnut rather than a Timmies timbit. I sometimes think that it would be nice to drive thru for a coffee, then think that I'm on my way home anyway, and there I can make a pot of good coffee for the price of one cup, and I have Bailey's at home.

Wouldn't you like to go back in time and buy 1000 shares in Timmies? Well I guess it is a Canadian success story we all should like.

Afghanistan a model for future crises: NATO

"Afghanistan will serve as a prototype for future civil-military co-operation in handling crises in other weak or failing nations, says NATO's chief."

Well maybe. I guess what they are doing in Afghanistan is having a go at every option available just to see the results. They would be saying "Well this plan doesn't make any sense at all, but we should try it out anyway, never know it might work somewhere else."

Please don't tell me there are more Afghanistan or Iraq type missions in the future. There has to be a better way than what we are doing now.

Throne Speech change to Oh Canada

"Something that could prove controversial, the government also hinted that changes may be coming to the O Canada — the national anthem — as it will ask parliament to "examine the original gender-neutral English wording" of the song".

Official Lyrics of O Canada!

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Here is a Govt website about the anthem:

http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/ceem-cced/symbl/anthem-eng.cfm#a0

It has the history of the anthem but is somewhat confusing.

My thoughts on changing the anthem?

Well the male chauvinistic, history loving and stupid side of me experienced a raising of my hackles against any change. I see this as an attempt by fat ugly feminists to change the song to suit their wants.

When those thoughts quickly evaporated from my head, I put some real thought into it.

In 1980 a bill, to proclaim "Oh Canada be the national anthem, was unanimously accepted by the House of Commons and the Senate on June 27; Royal assent was given the same day. I wonder were there no females in the house of Commons or Senate, or equality minded men who could not see this anthem as unfair? I believe this comes from the line "True patriot love in all thy sons command". Could they not see in 1980,just 30 years ago, why this is unfair to about one half of the population? True patriot love has commanded many young Canadians lately. The Army is fighting a war in Afghanistan. While the majority of the Combat Arms are male, there are also females. We have lost two females to this war: Capt. Nichola Goddard, an Artillery Officer who was 26, and Trooper Karine Blais of the 12 Regiment Blinde du Canada (12RBC or 12th Tank Regiment of Canada) who was only 21. And take into account the numerous wounded that are not reported. What more info does the govt need to change the anthem? This hits home to me as my Regt, the Royal Canadian Dragoons have lost the majority of Armoured Regiments soldiers.

Ok, I agree we should take out sons. But replace it with what?

"True patriot love in all thy kids command"?
"True patriot love in all thy young'uns command"?
"True patriot love in all thy folks command"?
"True patriot love in all thy citizens command"?
Or go back to the original, another "Oh Canada, our home and native land"?

How about - "True patriot love, we'll fight for our homeland"? Our is including the word fight too offensive?

And how about getting rid of "God keep our land"? Keep that God out of our face!!!

Update on Quebec burned woman.

"Gatineau police spokeswoman Isabelle Poirier said police now believe the incident was an attempted suicide".

The police searched for other victims in Gatineau park and found nothing.

I am going with the botched alien abduction theory on this one.

Another Throne Speech point.

The Throne speech includes "A plan to the establishment of a national monument to the victims of communism and a national Holocaust memorial."

Well I don't know if I should even touch this subject.

I will say that I think the US Holocaust museum is a waste of taxpayer's money. In a hundred years the Holocaust will be grouped together with all of history's dark ages. The slaying of Native Americans comes to mind. How many Native camps were wiped out - man, woman and child? And just what happened to the Natives in Newfoundland?

Even this bible of yours states in Deuteronomy:

7:1 When the Lord your God brings you to the land that you are going to occupy and forces out many nations before you – Hittites,1 Girgashites,2 Amorites,3 Canaanites,4 Perizzites,5 Hivites,6 and Jebusites,7 seven8 nations more numerous and powerful than you –
7:2 and he9 delivers them over to you and you attack them, you must utterly annihilate10 them. Make no treaty11 with them and show them no mercy!

Now you probably know what I think about the bible and religion, but it seems that genocide has been practised for eternity. To everyone and by everyone, to the Jews and by the Jews (Palestinians,eg).

And as for victims of communism? Yes Stalin killed many of his own, but he couldn't be that bad as we allied with him. We should have allied with the Germans right after D-Day when the outcome was obvious, and drove the Red Hoardes back to their borders. Instead we kept up the fight and killed civilians for another year, and then killed off the German population with the Morgenthau's plan and others.

OK, I've probably said enough on this subject.

Update: Niqab veil-wearing Montrealer feels treated unfairly

Still in the news from Montreal.
"The experience – and the subsequent attention the case has attracted – has been stressful.
I have three kids, and now, I am very nervous, and they're crying, and I have quite a problem," Naema said."

Well boo frickety boo.

She wants to learn french and get a job as a pharmacist in Quebec.

I'm also torn in this story. Why should anyone care about what she wears? The story says that it was only when officials from the province's immigration ministry visited the class that she was asked to stop wearing the niqab altogether.
Hmmm, the separatist's blamed the last refurendum loss to immagrants. Could this be what got a hair up the ass of the province's immigration ministry?
Naema, her first name, is being forced into this by some male. But I don't think there is a law in Canada against wearing this kind of outfit. Of course the feminists are against it as it is degrading to women.

Another fine Canadian mess.!

Burned woman found in Gatineau parking lot

"A severely burned woman was in critical condition in a Montreal hospital Wednesday after being found in a Gatineau parking lot Tuesday night."

The police don't know how she was burned. The woman pointed to a nearby woods and said there were more victims in there. The police searched with dogs and found nobody else.

The comments for this story range from a bush party accident to a meth lab explosion to some lunatic running around with a flame thrower. I'm surprised a botched alien abduction theory has not been brought forward.

A horrible yet interesting news story. I will wait for the whole story to get out.

Niqab-wearing woman pursues Quebec college

"Quebec's Human Rights Commission is studying a complaint from a permanent resident expelled from a French college class last year after she refused to remove her niqab veil."

A niqab is one of those shapeless frocks that cover the total body except the eyes. The story says she came in twice before the course not wearing the thing, and then showed up for the first class with the nidab. She is from Eygpt.

In a way I think what's the big deal. Why should we care what she is wearing? She paid for the course and should be allowed to wear whatever she wants.

Then in another way I wonder just what the heck is up with her. She comes from Egypt where the wearing of the Niqab is not mandatory. Is this an instance where immagrants are trying to change the way we live? Our Armed Forces are over in Afghanistan trying to bring a change for the betterment of Afghan folks, which includes schooling for women and partly to not be forced to wear the burqha (which is similiar to the niqab but worse; there is a netting across the eye hole). Now this women shows up from Egypt to get schooling, which is good, but wants to wear her traditional dress. I don't believe it is her choice, likely a husband of father is forcing her.
Next we will see deaf people sue her for not being able to read her lips!
