"Federal government documents on Afghan detainees suggest that Canadian officials intended some prisoners to be tortured in order to gather intelligence, according to a legal expert."
Oh, for feck's sake. This legal expert, Amir Attaran, claims to have seen uncensored gov't documents last year that the gov't not only knew Afghans prisoners would get tortured, but wanted it to happen to get some intelligence. How this University of Ottawa Law professor got access to these docs, when no one else seems to be able to, is a great mystery.
One commentator on the CBC website claims that he is an old buddy of Mike Ignatieff. Maybe there is some kind of loyalty there.
One lawyer stirs up this mess in a country as large as Canada. And all the bleeding hearts and opposition parties jump on the band wagon. They grasp at any straw to rub shite in Harper's face.
We did not and do not have the facilities to house prisoners and most were handed over to the Afghan authorities. That's all we could do. We hunted them down, captured them and handed them over to the lawful authorities. The prisoners knew what they were in for, that is all part of the deal to be a terrorist/guerilla/freedom fighter. It absolutely astounds me that the Canadian population would get worked up by this. Harper a war criminal? Please..
