Throne Speech change to Oh Canada

"Something that could prove controversial, the government also hinted that changes may be coming to the O Canada — the national anthem — as it will ask parliament to "examine the original gender-neutral English wording" of the song".

Official Lyrics of O Canada!

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Here is a Govt website about the anthem:

http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/ceem-cced/symbl/anthem-eng.cfm#a0

It has the history of the anthem but is somewhat confusing.

My thoughts on changing the anthem?

Well the male chauvinistic, history loving and stupid side of me experienced a raising of my hackles against any change. I see this as an attempt by fat ugly feminists to change the song to suit their wants.

When those thoughts quickly evaporated from my head, I put some real thought into it.

In 1980 a bill, to proclaim "Oh Canada be the national anthem, was unanimously accepted by the House of Commons and the Senate on June 27; Royal assent was given the same day. I wonder were there no females in the house of Commons or Senate, or equality minded men who could not see this anthem as unfair? I believe this comes from the line "True patriot love in all thy sons command". Could they not see in 1980,just 30 years ago, why this is unfair to about one half of the population? True patriot love has commanded many young Canadians lately. The Army is fighting a war in Afghanistan. While the majority of the Combat Arms are male, there are also females. We have lost two females to this war: Capt. Nichola Goddard, an Artillery Officer who was 26, and Trooper Karine Blais of the 12 Regiment Blinde du Canada (12RBC or 12th Tank Regiment of Canada) who was only 21. And take into account the numerous wounded that are not reported. What more info does the govt need to change the anthem? This hits home to me as my Regt, the Royal Canadian Dragoons have lost the majority of Armoured Regiments soldiers.

Ok, I agree we should take out sons. But replace it with what?

"True patriot love in all thy kids command"?
"True patriot love in all thy young'uns command"?
"True patriot love in all thy folks command"?
"True patriot love in all thy citizens command"?
Or go back to the original, another "Oh Canada, our home and native land"?

How about - "True patriot love, we'll fight for our homeland"? Our is including the word fight too offensive?

And how about getting rid of "God keep our land"? Keep that God out of our face!!!
